On the day of receipt of Captain Kane's letter (2th September) the Acting Colonial Secretary applied for the issue of the Carbines alleged to be discovered, and was answered that the subject had already been referred to the Major General commanding the Forces.

I accordingly delayed to bring this supplementary information to your Grace's notice, but as two months are past and the Shanghae mail brings us reply from General Brown, I think it right to note this subsequent circumstance in the case for your consideration.
